TOPICS: THE TOOLS FOR NOMADS SHOW
- OSCAR MANGUY
I first discovered expedition guide, photographer, media savvy, off-the-grid, big-time dreamer Oscar Manguy on Instagram. Oscar’s stunning images always stop me in my tracks: a silhouette standing on a beach during sunrise in Baja; giant brown bears fighting; magical green waves of the Arora borealis towering over a tiny figure. As an adventure photographer Oscar overcomes the elements to capture the best photograph possible. One image that I keep coming back to is a surreal image of a brown bear silhouetted against a steel blue lake.
Oscar fits all of his camera gear into one backpack, no matter where he goes: the Arctic, Baja, everything in between. Oscar’s day-to-day life is just as much of an adventure: he and his wife live off the grid on an island on a lake in Finland. No electricity. No running water. Their kitchen is outside in a small gazebo by the lake.
How does Oscar communicate and keep connected? The government of Finland provides 4G internet everywhere. As long as his batteries are charged, Oscar can work as efficiently and proficiently as if he were living in a city.
This is a good one.
